By day, Tampa homicide detective Alex Reed is fiercely intelligent and tougher than any of the men in her department. By night, she explores her darker side by writing highly erotic novels of bondage and submission under the pen name Victoria Tarlatan. Detective Cole Berkley is Alex's longtime partner and best friend. He doesn't know anything about her secret hunger to be mastered, but he's about to find out. A serial killer is working his dark magic, transforming wicked women into works of erotic art. His hapless victims are found tied to the bed in classic bondage poses, strangled and tortured in unspeakable ways. To crack the case, Alex and Cole go undercover in the BDSM community, posing as master and slave, dominant and submissive. Can Alex hold on to her secret while being forced to play out her most private fantasies with her partner? And can Cole handle the change in his tough-as-nails partner from one of the guys to a woman with deeply erotic needs? The friction between them will soon be the least of their worries. The killer has a list of intended victims. Victoria Tarlatan is on it, making Alex next in line for the killer's transformation. Will she pay for her Dangerous Cravings with her life?

The story was good and I found myself looking forward to the male narration. I thought the female voice sounded like a very old person. It was very grating. I would find myself immersed in the story and then the female narrator would start interpreting the male voice and, poof, the magic was gone. At those times, I found myself rewinding the story because her voice would distract me so much I missed the actual dialog. I would give the male narrator 5 stars, if I could. I would give the female narrator a 1. I'm keeping this lady's name to make sure I do not get books narrated by her in the future. It was that bad.

Female narrator was distracting in a bad way

William Martin, the male narrator, has a sublimely sensual voice and is perfect for this piece. Usually I can figure out "who done it" after the first few chapters of a story, but this one kept me guessing, through many twists and turns, until the very end. The BDSM was extremely tasteful and well written. Ms. Anderson took the time to become educated on the "lifestyle" and didn't gaudy it up. I've always been interested in the Dominant/Submissive lifestyle and this book really hit the mark for me. A little romance, a little mystery, a little sex and all very tastefully written. This is definitely going to go on my favorites list and will be listened to time and time again.
If you're looking for a book that has it all, but isn't too skanky and raunchy, this is it! If you're looking for raunchy, gaudy BDSM, you should move on to something else because this book is NOT for you. I happen to like both, depending on my mood. :)

Fabulous!!!

I am happy to say I discovered new author – Evangeline Anderson.
Whether it Sci-fi (Severed) or modern suspense romance (Dangerous Cravings), both are equally good.

Alex’s conflicting emotions and actions are the center of the story. I liked the way the subject of Alex’s cravings was presented – it was mostly done as explanation to Cole to make him understand and accept Alex not only as his partner and one of the guys but also as a woman who still remained best partner he ever had.

The main characters feelings are at the surface. When ex-wife Amanda was complaining to Cole about his relationship with Alex, her upset and hurt were clearly felt in her words.

Acceptance and need, perception and appearance- all are part of the story; how people see themselves and how others see them. Some are ready and willing to learn and accept differences and quirks of others, but some are blinded by jealousy and close mindedness ready to “teach” a lesson and kill.

Cole underwent the biggest character change- from total disbelief, to confusion, to understanding, to acceptance and to embrace.
The writing is beautiful and emotional.

The narration by William Martin who was part of the team narrating “Severed” and Anne Johnston Brown were very good. As always, good narration enhances the story.

5 stars

Wow! Another hit from Evangeline Anderson. Once more I wish Audible would allow half star ratings, as id like to give 4 1/2 stars. I only have 2 complaints: 1. I thought it was pretty obvious what linked the victims together, but I'm not a detective, so...
2. When Anne did the male lead voice. he always sounded angry to me. Might just be my perception, but there you go. Overall, the listen was fabulous!

Scorching hot!

William Martin's voice was great and I enjoyed his narration of the story. Unfortunately the female narrator, Anne Brown's, male voices were awful.
