Hanin Lahiri is the American born daughter of two Indian immigrants, and all her life she's struggled with her identity, caught between one world and another. Expectations of her as an individual seem constantly pulled in opposite and unrealistic directions, and even when she does manage to please those around her, she can't help but feel she's being disingenuous to herself, whatever that abstract, undeveloped true self may be.
