I didn't listen to the first book as I have hearing damage ( I have read all three books prior to listening) and I wanted to see if the narrator could keep my attention with tonal variation and delivery-- and he did.
I did NOT expect the accent that was given to Olbric but as soon as I heard it it made So Much Sense and I don't think I can give that character any other voice in my head now.
I loved that the characters were given their own vocal quirks/accents to differentiate them, so it was always a delight when they came "on page" ( on scene? ) and helped as a listener to know who was talking. it left me wishing for more dialogue/exchanges between my favourite accents, so I'm counting that as a job well done.
if the first book (as an audiobook) ever goes on sale for at least half price I may buy it to add it to my "roadtrip reading" collection -- at least for when I have 5+ hours of unfettered highway to navigate.
