They destroyed my long-held dream of moving out of manufacturing into security and recovery. All those years volunteering at every related thing to get my foot in the door suddenly blown to dust. I'd wanted to help LGBTQ youth and battered spouses by putting my waning USMC background to work again. I wanted to help, contribute to humanity again--only to wake up one morning in Santa’s bed conscripted into their role for me. Seemed there was no escaping my brand new . . . you got it . . . manufacturing job. I tried to fight it. And failed. The magic isn't too bad, maybe. Nice idea anyway. And then there's the red suit.
Now the real elf in charge is telling me I've got to get married. Okay, he's heavily encouraging me to do it. This whole thing is some kind of hellish nightmare that's going to last for centuries.
Drift
My family is still trying to pin me down, and for once I'm with them. I love skiing all around the world. I love surfing every wave to be found. I love hiking, parasailing, all of it. And to make that keep happening for as long as I can stretch it out, I'm finishing my degree on special exchange at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Two birds, one stone.
If only I hadn’t found Mac at the bar that night. I'm not even into bears, especially not old ones. I'd built a faux-alpha world around me. I ran with the jocks. Then Mac let me be himself, the part of me I’d rejected as a child, my omega side. Anyone who made me want that was, well, totally magical.
