Virtual voice is computer-generated narration for audiobooks.

Riley Carter is one mistake away from losing everything.

Drowning in debt and fighting to keep her dying mother alive, Riley takes a mysterious high-paying courier job—and is framed for a catastrophic financial crime. Facing decades in prison, she’s given one impossible escape.

Killian Ashcroft.

Cold, brilliant, and dangerously powerful, Killian can erase her charges and save her mother’s life—but only if Riley signs a contract that gives him complete control. What begins as survival becomes entanglement as Riley is pulled into a world of corporate espionage, obsession, and carefully calculated desire.

In a city built on leverage, power is intimacy—and freedom always has a price.

As a full-time mama, finding time to physically sit down and read a book is nearly impossible, so I listened to this one on Audible. I know some people have reservations about AI narration, but I was genuinely impressed. The author chose a voice that read the story really well. There were a few moments where the inflection wasn’t exactly how I imagined it, and I had to replay a scene in my head but honestly, that didn’t bother me at all. Having the option to listen made it possible for me to experience this story, and I’m thankful for that. Especially for a dark romance girlie who eats stories like this up.

The over all book itself was fantastic in my opinion. There was really only one thing that bothered me which was Riley saying the full name of the type of motorcycle she rode over and over again. But over all I loved it!

The pacing was perfect, and I felt like it never dragged. I found myself fully invested the entire time and really had a hard time “putting it down” . The storyline felt engaging, and the spicy scenes were -mwuah- chef’s kiss. I especially loved the unique take on the Dom/Sub dynamic. It felt different in a way that kept things interesting and emotionally layered.

While the story centers on Riley, I really appreciated getting multiple perspectives from Killian and Marcus. Seeing pieces of the story unfold from their viewpoints while Riley remained unaware added so much depth and tension. It made the overall experience feel more exciting.

And Mavis? Zero chill. I loved her.

As much as I enjoy a good cliffhanger, I really respected that this book wrapped everything up in a satisfying way. Nothing felt unfinished. It left me feeling content while still wanting more from this world and these characters.

Highly recommend, especially for us dark romance girlies who love a little power struggle dynamic.

Throughly Enjoyed It Overall
