Rachael King is a writer, reviewer, former literary festival director and ex-bass player living in New Zealand. Her novels for children include The Grimmelings, which has won several awards and is published internationally, and Secrets at Red Rocks, which won the Esther Glen Medal in 2013 (as Red Rocks) and has been adapted for a television series on BUYtv in the US in 2025. Song of the Saltings (May 2026) is her first novel for young adults. All three novels reflect her love for, and obsession with, Scottish folklore – the weirder the better. Rachael’s adult novels, The Sound of Butterflies and Magpie Hall have together been translated onto nine languages.
