One storm. One stranger. Two words that changed everything.

Avery Holloway doesn’t do reckless. She’s a twenty-eight-year-old attorney with contingency plans for her contingency plans and a love life that’s left her convinced she’s broken. So when a friend’s invitation lands her at Midnight Manor, an exclusive masked party where inhibitions are checked at the door, she tells herself it’s just research.

Then the storm hits. The roads flood. And a stranger in a silver mask says the most dangerous thing anyone has ever said to her: “You’re exhausted. And when you’re ready to stop thinking, you’ll find me.”

He’s calm where she’s chaos. Deliberate where she’s spiraling. And when he puts a rope in his hands and asks her to breathe, something inside Avery that’s been locked tight for years finally cracks open.

As the hours pass and the storm rages, Avery is drawn deeper into a world of silk restraints, whispered commands, and praise that rewrites everything she thought she knew about desire. Every scene pushes her closer to the edge of surrender, and every act of trust strips away another layer of the armor she’s spent a lifetime building.

But when the clock strikes midnight and the masks come off, the stranger who unraveled her turns out to be the last man she ever expected. And the real question isn’t whether she can forgive him.

It’s whether she can survive wanting him without the mask.

This standalone novella features praise, soft dominance, shibari, emotional vulnerability, and a hero who earns every ounce of surrender. All acts are fully consensual between adults within a safety-aware framework. Intended for readers 18+. HEA guaranteed.

If you value any aspect of trust (or informed consent) in relation to how you enjoy fictional BDSM, this story may be a problem.

This isn’t the usual dubious consent fiction, although a huge part of consent, even in this unrealistic story, is violated.

The story itself isn’t consistent about several things, however, anonymity was a given until late in the story, the idea that people who stay until a certain time will remove their masks is shoehorned into the plot late in the book. The idea that any participants would be forced to unmask was not mentioned, and in fact anonymity was supposedly the appeal.

That’s a problem, although there are so many other practical issues that this might be overlooked, except a trusted family friend either plotted or stumbled upon an opportunity to go after someone who had several reasons to believe in the option to stay anonymous. Apparently. The narrative gets sketchy about how the invite was issued and how long one person was aware of another’s identity. However, FFS, the MC who decided to abuse trust within a BDSM setting actually had every chance to approach to other MC outside of a scene and did nothing.
This hit a rotten place on my enjoyment scale.
The story also seems to lose steam and continuity near the end. On the plus side, the grammar wasn’t bad.
