A good story

I know every story can't be sunshine and rainbows however this had a persistence of one tragedy after another. Either I was annoyed with the naivety of the main character or just the lack of progression in the characters development. If one of two of the twist were applied in the story and flushed out more then that would have been great and less overwhelming to the chaos.
