I went to Mexico to play music, drink too much, and forget everything. I didn’t expect to fall for the man who could destroy my future.

Caleb Allen

My life is music—late nights, dive bars, and chasing the rush of being on stage. The band is finally gaining traction, and for the first time, it feels like something real. Then I meet him.

Eric Moore—smart, confident, and completely out of my league. One night turns into something more. Something I can’t walk away from. Something that feels…right.

But when I get back to campus, everything changes. Because Eric isn’t just the guy I fell for in Mexico, He’s my professor. Now every glance in class is a risk. Every touch could ruin us.

And no matter how hard we try to stay away…We can’t.

Eric Moore

I’ve worked too hard to get here. A new professor at ASU, a fresh start, a career I can finally be proud of. No mistakes. No scandals.

Then Caleb crashes into my life—reckless, passionate, and impossible to resist. What we had was supposed to stay in Mexico. A perfect, temporary escape. But now he’s sitting in my classroom.

Looking at me like nothing has changed. And maybe for him, it hasn’t. But for me? One wrong move could cost me everything—my career, my reputation, my future.

Still… the way he looks at me, the way he fights for us. It makes me want to risk it all.

This is the third book in the Rock U series. It follows Caleb Allen a student and guitarist for a punk rock band, who is dealing with the fallout and guilt of a mass shooting he was involved in. In walks Eric Moore, a new professor at ASU, spending a vacation in Mexico when he meets Caleb where they start out as a summer fling but ends up to be so much more. White a schedule change Eric finds it that Caleb is indeed in his class and when he tells him he realizes that he doesn’t want to be without him. As they both deal with the intricacies of them dating a sweet love story emerges. I enjoyed this story of how a tragedy can be worked through with a good therapist, friends and the love of your life. Finney Cole was wonderful as the narrator he really captured Erne sorry and the love between the two characters.

Enjoyed the story for the most part, I wasn't to fond of the story line with Raj (I think it how it's spelled, if not ooops). Good HEA. I really enjoy all of Christie's books, so far all her stories are good enough to reread or listen to again. I also like the way Finnley Cole narrated "Never let it end".

This is a standalone romance, but it takes place after the traumatic events in the previous book. We know what Caleb has experienced and it wonderful to see him making every effort to move forward. In Mexico he meets Eric who is about 10 years older than him and strong and comforting presence. They have steamy encounters and grow close. I did appreciate though that they made the realistic decision that it could not continue back home since they would be Professor and student. But we all know that the heart wants what the heart wants and these two have to their own feelings, moral decisions as well as the nasty outside interference of Eric's previous bad decision! Emotional and hard-won happiness found within themselves and with each other. I was so invested in Caleb's health and happiness, so I was pulling for Eric and Caleb to make it work because they felt right together. I thought Finny Cole did a nice job of bringing both Eric and Caleb to life.

Audiobook (10h7m), Narrated by Finnley Cole: 4.25 stars
I've been enjoying Finnley Cole's story-telling but found his Caleb/Eric to be quite similar to his Axel/Remy when listening to them back-to-back. This had a lot more passages that were more softly spoken, which I struggle with as the volume differences makes listening in the car a chore. Still I found his narration compelling and entertaining - very easy to enjoy during my commute to work.

I listened at 1.15x speed as I knew this wasn't my favourite story in the series and I'm eager to listen to Silas and Cash's story, [book:Light Me Up|176608068].

I was given an Audible code and voluntarily wrote an honest review.

Story: 2.5 stars
1st person, past tense, dual POV
Caleb Allen (22), computer sciences student at ASU
Eric Moore (33), network security professor in the computer sciences department at ASU

This is the third book in the Rock U series and while it could be read as a standalone, events that occur near the end of the previous book [book:Come Closer to Me|122891918] play a significant role in this story. While they are explained, the emotional impact isn't felt nearly as much and I feel would read better with that context. There are also some cameo appearances by characters from the author's Mesa Boys series and as I have not yet read them it felt gratuitous and distracting though I'm sure fans of those books were thrilled to see them appear.

I went into this book with a great deal of anticipation, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Very little of the story worked for me. Just about the only thing this story had going for it was the hot sex, especially Caleb's... oral fixation ;) which isn't enough to carry the book, especially with its length.

As with the first two books of the series the relationship is established rather quickly, too quickly for my enjoyment, I like the anticipation, especially when there are impediments such as an age gap, meddlesome ex-, taboo relationship and actual trauma to work though for storylines. All these issues are basically swept aside for sex and an endless loop of 'we should disclose our relationship', but Eric refusing to do so for... reasons... This had the consequence of a long, drawn-out, monotonous middle that just wasn't engaging.

I really hate when characters act against their own best interests and the whole secrecy about their relationship was dragged out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long. Literally every character stated that they needed to disclose their relationship to the university to avoid problems and Eric received that information and then promptly decided against it, for no discernable reason. He was already a bit of a red flag for the secret affair he had with his married boss, Rajesh, at Desert Solar so this didn't endear him to me at all. When it finally came out the resolution was not at all satisfying; Caleb basically lied to saved Eric's ass and the bad guy faced zero consequence.

While I love the band and the found family vibe they have going on, by and large their treatment of Caleb's trauma was ham-handed and insensitive. More than once I recoiled at the guys' attitude towards him, pressuring him to talk about the events early on in the book and his relationship with Eric - yuck! I did enjoy Caleb's journey in dealing with the guilt of not having done more and was thrilled with every bit of progress that he made.

I actually thought the Rajesh storyline could have been a compelling one as he started stalking Caleb and trying to entice Eric back into his bed, it sadly fizzled and didn't play out with any elegance.

While this one was a miss for me, others have enjoyed it very much and I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the bandmates get their HEAs.

Great story of finding love. Caleb is working through his trauma and not expecting to fall in love and resolve his trauma. Eric is not even looking for a relationship when he meets Caleb. But once they connect there is no separating. This story is very touching and really well written. The narrator does a fantastic job bringing the characters to life and really making you live the story.
