After the banishment of its abusive rulers, Repentawa will need more protection than ever before. Especially with the calamity heading towards the Northern Belt.

With the deed to an entire city comes… disappointingly little responsibility. Still, Freddy decides to put his money where his mouth had been his entire life, determined to do the right thing.

And, as always, his resolve is rewarded with an unreasonable challenge.

A horde of monsters is kicked into a frenzy, sending a wave of destruction across the entire Northern Belt. If he wants to keep his people alive, he will need to leverage every shred of power he has.

Including the attention of several large factions from the empire mainland.

Book 4 of this action-packed LitRPG Adventure from Robert Blaise set two hundred years after a reality-altering apocalypse.

Featuring a weak-to-strong Brawler MC who never backs down, a unique power system, apocalyptic elements and more!

This is by far my least favorite book in the series. I feel like I’ve kind of lost the plot.

Lost the plot

So this one continues in the trend of the others, except the MC is just especially unlikeable in this one. I’m not sure why he has to have the toddler mood swings all the time but it’s very grating after a while. I’m used to MCs in LitRPGs being a bit prickly and moralizing but this guy is just 20 layers of character flaws held together with dumbass duct tape. The empire system and being able to legally evacuate and stuff too is some very thin plot story for why they can’t leave. I’ll give it one more book, but I can’t listen to some kid with superpowers yell and whine his way through life much longer.

Good story, unlikeable MC

...which is still damn good. It's the same exciting power fantasy as the others, but I wasn't as thrilled with the plot. It didn't progress the story that much. It's basically all about defending the city. Fun fights, and good characters, but I was hoping for more.

Excellent, but weakest of the series

Loved it, can’t wait for the next book. Narrative and story are top notch. Love the narrator too.

Epic

It’s been a while since I last listened to this series, and it took me a bit to get back into the flow. There’s already been so much packed into the first three books that it almost feels like you’re nearing the end of a series rather than still being early on.

This book puts the main character through a lot.

The central conflict revolves around defending a city from repeated monster waves, along with a group actively manipulating those attacks to target both the city and the main character specifically. On top of that, there’s a strong focus on city politics and protecting his people from predatory forces within the city itself.

What stood out to me most is just how much the main character struggles here. He’s dealing with enemies inside the city who are far more powerful than he is, and it creates a constant sense of pressure. There’s also some meaningful development in his relationship with the local adjudicator, which I enjoyed seeing evolve into something more cooperative.

The ending is especially intense. It builds into a very high-stakes situation where you’re genuinely wondering how he’s going to survive. It’s also fairly heavy emotionally, and at times it was tough to listen to just how much he’s put through.

Daniel Wisniewski does a fantastic job with the narration and really helps carry those heavier moments.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and I’m definitely looking forward to seeing where the story goes next.

A Tough Book for the Main Character
