Europe is locked in a massive war as a united continent fights to stop the Soviet advance. China has emerged from civil war under Communist rule. Japan lies under American occupation, rebuilding quietly beneath watchful eyes.

At home, a different revolution is beginning.

Daniel “Big Dan” Wilson never intended to become a national figure. A six-foot-three restaurant owner from Alabama—once discharged from the army for being “too tall”—he rises from small-town businessman to governor, then suddenly to presidential contender.
His message is simple: America should take care of its own people before worrying about the world.
But as the 1944 election approaches, powerful interests push back. Questions about Wilson’s past begin to surface, and the political establishment prepares for a fight.
Because this election will decide more than a president. It will decide America’s place in a changing world.
