Why must we frame the Christian life as that of a warrior? Can we not simply be faithful Christians without the imagery of conflict and conquest? The answer resounds with unyielding clarity across the pages of Scripture: no we cannot do without this language because the Christian life is war. This is not a matter of preference or poetic flourish; it is a divine reality woven into the fabric of God’s Word, and, therefore, God’s world. Whether you recoil from the imagery or embrace it, the prophets, apostles, and David himself employ the language of battle to depict the believer’s life. To dismiss this is to stumble blindly into defeat; to embrace it is to align yourself with the truth of Scripture and the demands of spiritual survival.

2. You have to rely on man for nothing (Ps. 144:3-4).
3. You have to petition God for everything (Ps. 144:5-9).
4. You have to praise God in everything (Ps. 144:9-10).
5. You have to thank God for blessings received as well as ask for more (Ps. 144:12-15).
