I could imagine every scene…

I only dabble in thrillers, but when I saw this cover, I was intrigued. I’ve been to San Francisco dozens of times, and so I was excited to have SF as the backdrop for this novel. It was fun to hear so many neighborhoods and off-the-beaten-path landmarks mentioned where I could imagine the scenes so vividly. It helped that the author was so descriptive — I loved the imagery that was conjured within the scenes.

Drug use and violence are themes of this book — and there’s a warning at the start of the novel. But if you’re comfortable with it, I thoroughly enjoyed this listen. Lots of “wait-a-minute” moments when you realize the narrator isn’t as reliable as he makes you believe. And the ending (not a spoiler) was a jarring (in a good way) juxtaposition of emotions from those involved!
