This Penguin Classic is performed by Tania Rodrigues, best known for [credits]. This definitive recording includes an introduction by Michael Glencross.

One night in the reform club, Phileas Fogg bets his companions that he can travel across the globe in just eighty days. Breaking the well-established routine of his daily life, he immediately sets off for Dover with his astonished valet Passepartout. Passing through exotic lands and dangerous locations, they seize whatever transportation is at hand - whether train or elephant - overcoming set-backs and always racing against the clock.

Around the World in Eighty Days contrasts the age of steamships, railways, and unpredictable overland treks with today’s effortless flights and digital navigation. Setting Fogg’s slow, uncertain journey beside our modern speed shows how travel has transformed. A charming reminder that what truly matters is the experience and the inner change it inspires.

P.S.: Don’t leave the gas lamp burning! ✨😃

This is the sort of story that, as generations go by, invites the reader to conjure further and more elaborate adventures for such a character. We don’t get to know what makes him tick, but he is the pillar one looks to in any potential catastrophe. Action packed. Romantic. Humorous. Classic.

Invitation for adventure

A wonderful novel in a good translation, but the narration is oddly recorded. It sounds as though it was narrated quickly and then slowed down, and the L & R channels are not completely in sync, which makes it sound like AI narration despite the narrator's pleasant, human intonation.

Wonderful novel, good translation, odd recording.
