J.D. Streeter provides background information as Travel Radio International audiojournalist Patricia Lawrence takes a tour at the base of the Devils Tower National Monument. The Tower itself is a unique geologic formation rising hundreds of feet above its base in Wyoming’s Black Hills. The site formed 50 to 55 million years ago underground, and is also known as "Bear Lodge" for the part it plays in Native American mythology. It was proclaimed the country’s first national monument in 1906. A park ranger discusses the site’s history, geology, ecology, local wildlife, recreational uses, and religious significance.
