When Augie Cumpton comes home from Vietnam in 1970, he is damaged goods. He’s suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, but PTSD would not be designated as a medical condition until a decade later. So, Augie begins self-medicating with alcohol and drugs. Then an incident involving his family and the Mob presents a new and perilous problem for Augie. Can he help his family overcome this deadly threat while dealing with his own demons? Fortunately, Augie has a very supportive family, loyal friends, and a woman in his life who are all trying to help him.

Like his debut novel, Augie’s War, John H. Brown delivers a masterfully written story with offbeat characters, hilarious incidents, and palpable tension. The novel also highlights the Italian American experience, where good food and candid conversation are a family feast served up daily.
