Behind Closed Doors

A doctor preparing for his wedding is interrupted by a detective with an errand requiring great discretion.

Can the doctor identify a mysterious woman at a hotel? He can. She is weeping...she is distraught...she is his fiancee. Leaving her in her misery, he returns to the wedding site to discover his bride-to-be has been there for hours.

From there, the mystery only deepens.

Anna Katharine Green (1846-1935), a prolific American author and “the mother of the detective novel” wrote Behind Closed Doors in 1888. It is a stand-alone mystery in her Inspector Gryce series.

lost me in the second chapter

I listened as long as I could to the voice of the reader who seemed to be trying too hard. I couldn't get used to that voice.

Dull

Maybe it would have been better, but the narration was so flat and uninteresting that I couldn’t make it through the first few hours (and that was a struggle). Narrators can make or break a book.
