A government in distress, a mercenary crew ready to serve

Black Shield uses a common storyline: Meet new tough guy, inducted into a black ops crew, urgent and dire mission, danger, government involvement, race against time, conclusion. The characters and dialogue are a bit two-dimensional, and the impending catastrophe barely believable. Still, I think the action and pace is generally on-point. What I had an issue with is the narration, which kept breaking immersion as my brain regularly had to auto-correct what I just heard. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 2.4x.]
