Second Edition, 2024. Long ago in the far and distant year of 1978, a new BBC science fiction series premiered. The series was the creation of Terry Nation who had created the Daleks for Doctor Who. The name of this new series was Blake’s 7. Escaping from a prison spaceship, hero Roj Blake and his friends were free to roam the galaxy in a stupendous alien spaceship with which they could start fighting back against the evil regime which ruled the planet Earth.
Themes of ruthless totalitarian dictators and oppressors such as the Daleks were always on Nation’s mind. Given a chance to pitch a series idea to the BBC, he immediately suggested something along the lines of Robin Hood in outer space doing battle the ruthless and corrupt government dictatorship with spaceships and ray guns.
With that bold move on Terry Nation’s part, Blake’s 7 was born.
