A New Breed, Book 3

Charlie Goodnight hates being charged a toll on every head of cattle he drives over Raton Pass, so he hires Roy Scuggins, a famed scout, trapper, guide, and explorer, to find a way around Raton Pass.

Roy is settled down with his wife's family, building a new breed of horse. Tragedy results in the loss of the prize stud that the Jakes family brought from back east. Roy suggests that try to get an appaloosa stud from the Nez Perce tribe in their summer hunting grounds along the Snake River of Idaho. Along the way, they cross paths with the new railroads that are making progress across Wyoming along the Oregon Trail.
