Crome Yellow

The renowned author of Brave New World, Aldous Huxley, made his literary debut with the 1921 classic Crome Yellow. Set in post-WWI England, this perennial favorite satirizes the fads and fashions of the time with the tale of a hapless couple who join a colorful mix of British aristocrats attending a party at a rural country estate.

Variety of characters

Some relate this was a satire of the times that were the early 1920s, shortly after WW I, especially regarding society in Great Britain. I considered it in that light while listening, and still I found truths that could be said about our current times. The various characters’ stories and personalities were interesting, including those reflected on in a historical light and not part of the gathering of people in Chrome. I also enjoyed the bits of poetry that were interspersed in the story.
