From #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden comes an electrifying medical thriller, Dead Med, originally published as Suicide Med.

"All I can think about is how pathetic it would be to die in the anatomy lab. The last thing I want is to become one of the dead bodies."

When Heather McKinley dreamed of becoming a doctor, she imagined curing sick kids and sporting pink stethoscopes. She never anticipated the sleepless nights, grueling exams, and endless labs. And she certainly never knew that her medical school earned the nickname Dead Med thanks to the tragic history of students overdosing on illegal drugs.

But Heather would never consider doing anything like that. That is, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her, she finds herself failing anatomy, and her world starts to crumble.

Everyone has a breaking point.

Then, on the night before the final exam in anatomy, a shot rings out through the hallways of Dead Med.

The school has claimed yet another casualty. One of Heather's classmates has done the unthinkable, and before her desperate 911 call even connects, it will happen again.

And the night is just beginning.

Before beginning this title, "Dead Med" by Freida McFadden, please note that it was originally published as "Suicide Med". Same book - Different title.

Drugs, guns, and psychic breakdowns are the main points taken into account for the beginning medical students in this novel.

Freida McFadden is one of my new favorite authors and I dive into all of her books with gusto as soon as I am given the go ahead by either asking for an ARC or preordering. This one was no different. However, I immediately had the feeling that this was one of her first novels (I haven't nor didn't confirm this) because the beginning story starting with Heather's POV just didn't feel like McFadden's more recent works. It was very slow and sluggish.

But then, the other POVs (I think I counted 6) began and all was redeemed. I HAD to finish it to see how it was going to end. McFadden didn't disappoint in the end hence the 1/2 star and rounding up to a 4 star review.

Overall a very good story

This saga goes back to MS1, Gross Anatomy and the first semester of medical school. FMcF makes this seem very real. We get a diary-like description from multiple students and the GA professor, each one at a time.
Characterization is Freida’s strength and it’s great to get a variety. eg It was impressive how stupid Heather was, The ethics and coping mechanisms displayed were highly varied and also excellent listening.

This was a nostalgic journey for me. I came to Med school from another profession so I studied to learn what might be important in future practice. But most students studied just to do well on tests. Most students have only ever been students and that’s all they know. And they feel required to compete. Very stressful. (What do you call the guy who finished at the very bottom of his medical class?? “Doctor”. An old joke with important perspective).
Not everyone will like how this all ends up but I did. Freida tools her stories around “the twist”, the lead-in can seem contrived and the aftermath untidy. But I am a fan and love her style.
Freida did a crummy job portraying the drug problem though some parts were clever. She didn’t bother to describe guns properly at all. Many errors, not a lick of proofreading.
I’ve never heard medical terms so incredibly mispronounced. No narrator gets them all right but these got every word wrong. I think they took pride in that.

Love Dr McFadden’s style

Not one of her best books. Started out feeling like a YA novel, didn’t get better until halfway through.

Love Frieda McFadden, didn’t love this book

This is a must read story. Once I thought I had it figured out, nope. Frida McFadden does it again!

Plot Twist of the century

This story was so good with the multiple points of view and the make and female narrators. I really enjoyed it!
