Rachel's parents insist on finding her a wealthy suitor, but with no title or dowry, the prospects are slim. Desperate for their daughter to marry well, they concoct a plan to get Rachel noticed by the Earl of Southford.

Horrified, Rachel refuses to go along with their plan, eventually giving in out of guilt. But as the plans take a turn, Rachel unexpectedly meets the Duke of Kingshire, a man she falls quickly in love with. But the rake Duke only has his mind on one thing, leaving Rachel heartbroken.

When the Earl comes to her rescue, she is struck by his gentle and caring spirit. But can the Earl forgive Rachel for her lies and deceit, and forget about her relationship with the Duke? Or will Rachel ruin her only chance for true love?
