Sarah Whitcomb-Gripp, England’s reigning queen of mystery fiction, is lauded for plots that seem to jump out of the London Police archives.

Because they do. The translucent spirit of Detective Treadlow Jones, her ghostly muse, hovers at her side and whispers the details of his cases, undocumented to the public for a century.

A decline in popularity for Sarah’s latest novel motivates her publisher to auction off the rights for her novels in the U. S. market, requiring an international trip for her and her literary agents Eddie and Florence Bracket. Given no alternative, Sarah crosses the pond for the first time, landing in the turbulent heart of Chicago.

The Windy City doesn’t offer her a gentle welcome. When a close friend is murdered and a predatory investment scheme threatens her life, Sarah is thrust into real danger where she is forced to become the heroine of her own story without the help of her muse.
