Toulouse is a newly married man and no longer a shoemaker of humble means. Now, he is a rich landowner of many properties in California and Nevada. Toulouse and Jiang are now enjoying a higher state of living. However, they will soon find out that riches are not the equivalent of a problem-free life.
Books 4 and 5 of “From East to West” continues the story of Toulouse Blanc, how he gets used to married life, and how he takes on new responsibilities. This novel features Jiang as she grows up and develops an interest in music. They both continue to learn about friendships and dealing with loss. Also, the mystery surrounding Toulouse’s arrival to America still needs to be fully answered and the Mysterious Monsieur still needs to be identified.
