Guerilla Warfare

Guerrilla Warfare by the revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara, written in 1960, has become a how-to manual for thousands of guerrilla fighters in various countries around the world. Guevara intended it to be a guidebook on guerrilla warfare, as inspiration for the revolutionary movement. Fascinating to admirers and adversaries alike, he captured the minds of millions with his leadership and his belief in guerrilla warfare as the only effective agent to achieve political change.

Here, in his own classic text on revolution, Che draws on his firsthand experience of the Cuban campaign to document all aspects of guerrilla warfare, from its aims to its organization and training. He analyses how in Cuba, against all odds, a small band of dedicated fighters grew in strength with the support of the people to defeat a dictator's army. Guevara emphasizes that guerrilla warfare is a favorable method against totalitarian regimes, where political opposition and legal civil struggle is impossible to conduct.

Worthwhile and engaging historical document

Simple, clear, and highly engaging. The writing, and at times the analysis, are clearly colored by ideology it remains a straightforward guide. The tactics and strategy are clear and the guide also serves as a fascinating history of the insurgency against and later overthrow of the Batista regime, if you are willing to read between the lines. A window into its time. The epilogue (if your version includes it) is particularly interesting from a historical perspective. Of note is Ernesto's certainty that America will not reduce let alone eliminate the sugar quota (as was done later that year) due to the power of "the forces of monopoly" or similarly his conviction that any "mercenary" invasion would be supported by (American) forces "of sea and air." It's interesting to consider why those predictions were wrong but also casts some doubt on contemporary certainty that Bay of Pigs would have gone differently but with additional air support.

great guide when a revolution finally comes! not surprised that a super soldier like ché made it very detailed and in turn made it easy to understand
