From a USA Today Bestselling Author, Heaven Sent is an RT Reviewer's Choice Award, First Historical Romance Winner.

Hannah Bunch, the preacher's spinster daughter, wants to help heaven along by hatching a plan to bring a shy suitor up to the point of a proposal. The Bible had Ruth meeting Boaz on the threshing field. If that worked for Ruth, couldn't it work for Hannah? It did. It all went perfectly, except the wrong man got snared.

Henry Lee Watson likes his life—without a wife. He makes the finest corn liquor in the territory. A good business on Saturday night, does not always make a good marriage to a Sunday morning kind of woman. But it's a shotgun wedding and he's thinking that the starchy preacher's daughter is maybe she's not so starchy after all.

Pamela Morsi writes with great tenderness and insight.—Luanne Rice, NYTimes Bestselling Author

I have 4 hours and 36 minutes left in this audiobook, and I can already say this is my favorite Pamela Morsi or at least in my top three.

Beth Hicks is a wonderful narrator. Of course, having already read this book on my Kindle, I knew I loved it but having such a skilled narrator bring Morsi’s words to life is like delicious icing on the cake.

I’ve been a fan of 1990s books since my teenage years. Call it the equivalent of the “romantasy” craze people are raving about these days. I did try some of the popular romantasy novels, but perhaps it’s my age (old millennial here), or something else, but the writing didn’t click for me. I get that these authors write from a young adult or even teenage POV, but must it read as if written straight from a fifteen-year-old’s journal? Sure, some 1990s bodice-rippers and romance novels haven’t aged well, but they at least had craft. Some modern romance writers sometimes felt like their prose was simplified to the point of being juvenile. Compare that to classics like Anne of Green Gables, written from a child’s perspective but never dumbed down. And I'm saying this because English is not my first language and I do appreciate it when I see that writers make an effort to write well and not give an excuse that "this is how people talk."

I digress but I do have a point. I didn’t deliberately seek out a 1990s romance when I found Heaven Sent. I didn’t even read the blurb or check the author; it was a random pick from Kindle Unlimited. I was surprised at how well-written it was. It truly felt historical. By “well-written,” I mean technically sound: Morsi has a strong command of language, grammar, and dialogue flow.

I finally looked her up: Pamela Morsi (March 12, 1951 – December 14, 2024) was an American author of 29 romance novels, starting in 1991. She won the RITA Award twice for Courting Miss Hattie (1992) and Something Shady (1996).

Heaven Sent really was heaven sent. The first time I read it, three or four years ago, I was rather ill and had lost my voice. I ended up at a coffee shop, wallowing in my bad luck since I’m a teacher and need my voice, staying there for hours while reading this book. It’s that kind of stroke of luck, finding a writer whose work just clicks. I feel the same about Stella Riley, another author I adore.

I finished the audiobook ---and what a delight! That last bit about the "prayer meeting" had me laughing. Well done, Miss Morsi. I’ll definitely be revisiting your other works. I enjoyed the audiobook just as much as the Kindle version.I’m looking forward to the other audiobooks, hoping Beth Hicks will narrate them too.

Need I say more? I HIGHLY recommend this audiobook.

A better 1990s writer and I wish I knew her sooner
