Alexis Yeung did everything right...only to watch everything go horribly, horribly wrong. Broken and angry, Alexis high-tails it to Europe, determined to face the world on her own terms and without consequence. Which includes a mind-blowing night with a sexy, scarred stranger.

Except, embittered former pararescuer Luke Jackson isn't exactly a stranger. He's supposed to keep an eye on Alexis without her knowing. Ending up in bed together was definitely not the plan. Now he's chasing her (admittedly hot) ass across Europe, a game of cat and mouse that always ends with the two of them tangled up in the sheets.

Something in their scarred, damaged souls calls to each other. And God help them, the sex is unbelievably hot. But if Alexis discovers who Luke really is, he'll lose the one thing that makes him feel whole....

Contains mature themes.

Yes, it’s that type of book, but very well done. It was pretty good. If you enjoy broody gruff broken men falling for women finding themselves, this one is for you.

Two broken people find each other

Really bad timing that I’m listening to this as current events reinforce the closed minded poop- canoes who think a woman’s worth is only in the children she can bear. This series’s moniker is Out of Uniform, yet should be Babies on the Brain. There is still a fair bit of pity-partying on both sides for this novella, including a good chunk in relation to babies.

On the plus side, the chemistry, banter, and sex worked better for me than in the previous installments. Sure, it was over the top and gave serious eye roll. It also gave great ‘you had me at hello’ vibes.

My observations as it relates to the whole series:
I like protector romance because it usually has danger plots; in the series, the only conflicts are personal. The other downside is that, except in the beginning and end, the stories involve just the two of them, which is fine to keep things zipping along as befits a novella … it’s just that the family and friend dynamics with the larger cast add a needed depth. Finally, if the sole focus is the romance and the sex with men in uniform, duet narration would sell these so much better.
