Rainmakers make the big bucks. For their companies and for themselves. Here's how.

The rainmaker is the person who brings big clients, big money, and big deals into an organization. How do they make the rain fall? Waiting for luck won't do, a very particular human being must get involved. Successful rainmakers are among the highest-paid employees in every company in every industry. They operate under many titles—owner, partner, sales representative, CEO, agent, managing director, and fund-raiser.

Author Jeffrey Fox is a rainmaker who knows how to talk about his gift. He pursues revenues and, in his sharp, witty style, takes you along for the ride. This hard-hitting collection of sales and marketing stories is packed with fifty smart, no-nonsense tips that show you how to succeed with any customer.

Fox will explain the Rainmaker's Credo, why customers don't care about you, the six killer sales questions, why you should dare to be dumb, and why breakfast meetings bring rain. He'll help you discover why you should never be "in a meeting," why earthquakes don't count, why you should sell on Friday afternoons, and other critical skills. If becoming a rainmaker is your goal—whatever your business—How to Become a Rainmaker is the program for you.

Every single tip in this book is fantastic, I used to work for Nordstrom as a salesman and I’m here to tell you that the things in this book work very very well. This book is worth listening to over and over again by far.

There are definitely some good things in here, but there's also quite a few things I strongly disagree with. he seems to be speaking about selling to a very demographic and to a past generation as well. Specifically, I'm talking about his pointers about dress as well as his take on personal interactions. If I dress up too much I won't be relatable to my customers and they'll find it more difficult to get them to trust me. However, that's specific to my type of customer. I'm not selling to CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. I'm selling to CEOs and CFOs of local Blue collar companies. they dress in jeans and a polo or a button-up shirt. So that's what I do and I don't think anybody has had a hard time respecting me. On the personal interactions, he mentioned several times that the customer doesn't care about your personal life, or similar things. I strongly disagree with this. My way of selling is to develop relationships and friendships with my customer. it helps me be more relatable and significantly improves retention. If it's all about the dollar amount, that customer will be gone as soon the next guy steps in the office with a lower amount or a better deal. Yes, you don't need to make it all about you but "all business" can be a deal killer too. some of those things just made it difficult for me to accept the actual good things but he had to say.

outdated and narrow
