Love in Pledge

In the Guajuco Valley, in northern New Spain, there exists an ancestral belief. It is a promise of perpetual love when a lady gives her handkerchief to a gentleman.

A sweet incident is the reason why Rosario, unaware of this tradition, gives her handkerchief to Captain Joaquín and changes her destiny.

Rosario is forced into marriage, receiving a cruel punishment for her refusal. Joaquín obeys his father’s command to marry, persuaded by his lover’s promise that they will continue to see each other.

Joaquín, unaware of what compelled Rosario to accept the union, treats her coldly and accuses her of ambition. She, heartbroken, begins to fear that her life of abuse is far from over.

As time passes, Joaquín’s attraction to Rosario deepens. When he learns the truth of her sorrowful past, he strives to reclaim the gentle young woman who gave him her love in pledge. But tragedy strikes, and guilt tears them apart.

Will they be able to recover the love that started?

Can they be happy after suffering a tragedy?
