Murry Peterson: Checkmate

Muriel Peterson longed to escape the confines of junior high school while living in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1980. When her guidance counselor revealed himself to be an agent of the CIA, he recruited her to help him on a mission.

A year later, he needs her help again. Reluctant at first, Murry is coaxed back into the spy game, this time as part of a team. Now in seventh grade, Murry discovers that the world and the people in it are not always as they seem.

A dead CIA courier, a rogue Soviet general, stolen nuclear weapons, and an inquisitive FBI agent who harbors a shocking secret about her late grandfather all add to the intrigue as Murry becomes a pawn in a global chess game between two superpowers.

Can she stand against the sinister conspiracy that threatens to destroy the United States from within and plunge the world into chaos? Can she discover the master manipulator making the moves from the shadows in the game where one wrong move means checkmate? Can she manage to keep her double life a secret from her overbearing mother and work alongside the boy she is hopelessly in love with, without making a fool of herself?
