So long as Dr. Clay Russell avoids looking too deeply into how much he can have fun with Leigh, the plan is still in play. She's charming everyone, except his clingiest ex-fling. And she's proving to him that it's not always a bad idea to lighten up and not be serious. Sex might have been a mistake, one they know better to repeat now. But each time she talks about her employment plans after their contract is over, he struggles to think about her being gone. And when she's the support he hadn't realized he'd been missing, he wonders how to ask her to stay.

Showing up and wowing all of Clay's superiors at a fundraiser is too easy, but facing off with the one woman who doesn't want to let him go gives her a run for the money.

He's too quick to explain and describe how badly he wants her, the woman who's supposed to be off-limits, per the contract they agreed upon that stated no intimacy. Forgiving him might have been her best choice yet. One that teaches her how strongly her feelings are changing for him. When she's invited to an engagement party for her ex, she's surprised at his proposition.

The perfect storm is brewing with her going back to show her former man how she's moved on.
