a beautifully written story

Rachel Gillig is a fantastic author. the characters have so much substance to them. the only thing that held me back as a reader was the storyline - it was fantastic, dont get me wrong, but there was something missing. something like excitement or... im not entirely sure .

So Good

I loved the style this book is written in, the story, the magic and the characters. Loved the scary gothic vibes. It also has really good pacing and great ending. Overall loved it!

Too much Hype

The Hype was not worth it, it is a good story but since I’ve Heras so much of it, that it was amazing I expected more, the narrator was very good, not wonderful but good, I was king of dissapointed, a good story overall

Book one.

I’ve had this series for at least six months and I was finally able to get to it. This was my first book club’s first pick for the new year. I enjoyed it very much. The magic system was very interesting. It reminds me of an RPG I use to play when I was younger called Kartia, they also used magical cards. I enjoyed the two main characters in this one and I found the Nightmare interesting. What pulled me out of the story was the poetry at the beginning of each chapter. I don’t know why though. Even after several days of contemplation I wasn’t able to put my finger on why that bothered me. The way the first book wrapped up I did see coming but it set us up for the book very well. I’m looking forward to finishing the series

Potenially good story ruined by poor narration

You are required to be adequate at your job. Not necessarily brilliant. Just good enough. So if you are a narrator of audiobooks it's non-negotiable that you learn how to pronounce the words. Like "hearth" (it's said "harth" not "herth"), and "pestle" ("pessel" not "pestel"). These are not Americanisms that I'm being unfair about, they're just wrong, and I'm only on Chapter 2 😥.
