Years ago, her parents made a deal with a crime family — the hand of their first-born daughter for the money to expand their business. They were a young couple. Already with one child, and a daughter on the way. But when that pregnancy ended in miscarriage — when they could never conceive again — it seemed they would never fulfill their end of the bargain. That changed when Parker told them her secret.

Now, Parker is being forced to go on a date with a man she despises. Just to live up to some deal she never made and would have never agreed to. She’s determined to make both families see what a mistake this is. She’s determined to make her would-be suitor reject her. But what happens when he doesn’t? What happens when Parker feels things for him that she never expected?

I like that the author created likable characters with enough depth to be realistic in such a brief story.
