Three months after Lachlan slew the Emperor Allarun, the Eleion are on the verge of civil war. Torn between their hatred for the half-blood king and their duty to him, two of the clans renounce their loyalty in the hopes of destroying the alliance. In the midst of negotiations, disaster strikes. A daring raid and kidnapping of Lachlan's queen forces Lachlan to confront Allarun's son, Vaurgar.
