In 1880 London, on her eighteenth birthday, Sarah Anderson stands at a crossroads in her life. Her stepfather gives her an ultimatum, “Marry the man I chose or leave.” She defies her stepfather and leaves facing an unknown future. Her head held high, tears in her eyes, a carpetbag in hand and with the clothes on her back, she said goodbye to her childhood home.

While searching for her godmother, Sarah walks through the filth of London to rescue three abandoned children. She finds a family and eventually a man to love, changing her life forever.
