Two teens must learn the "art of killing" in this Printz Honor-winning book, the first in a chilling new series from Neal Shusterman, author of the New York Times best-selling Unwind Dystology series.
A world with no hunger, no disease, no war, no misery: Humanity has conquered all those things and has even conquered death. Now Scythes are the only ones who can end life - and they are commanded to do so in order to keep the size of the population under control.
Citra and Rowan are chosen to apprentice to a scythe - a role that neither wants. These teens must master the "art" of taking life, knowing that the consequence of failure could mean losing their own.
Scythe is the first novel of a thrilling new series by National Book Award-winning author Neal Shusterman in which Citra and Rowan learn that a perfect world comes only with a heavy price.

Featured Article: Excellent Dystopian Listens Like The Hunger Games
The popularity of Suzanne Collins’s The Hunger Games trilogy and its film adaptations has paved the way for so many great dystopian books and series in YA, imagining harrowing worlds where teens must fight for survival and define what life means to them. The enduring popularity of the series has proven that dystopian stories and the sometimes-dark futures they imagine are endlessly fascinating to our imaginations.

What did you love best about Scythe?
This book is so though provoking. At the end I had chills run down my spine. What other book might you compare Scythe to and why?
I would have to say The Passage by Justin Cronin. Both authors do a fantastic job of catching you in the first chapter and making you truly care about the characters.Which character – as performed by Greg Tremblay – was your favorite?
Scythe Faraday. Although, i have only listened to this one time. I will listen to it again and more than likely by the book and read it.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I had an extreme reaction, but neither laughed or cried. It made me look deep into my own soul.Any additional comments?
Great listen.Simply stunned

And why is fire the only way for people to "permanently" die? How can you be revived from literally being flattened but not burned? It's never explained, just stated as fact but appears not much thought was put into it. There's also plenty of other points where it's reasonable to question why some technology doesn't exist that would impact the story and that you'd think would surely exist in such an advanced world. But you're never given much to go off of and can't really imagine the world at all.
Enjoyed the concept, world building is terrible

Citra and Rowan are everyday kids in an extraordinary situation. Life and its complexities are minimal in their world. But through luck, lack of wisdom, and chance...pick your version they wind up in the most complex of situations.
I found myself cheering, crying, and panicking for them. Young as they are their entire world is now different. The challenges the apprenticeship has brought them, the life they can't return to without being changed, it will all be different. Irrevocably changed. And all we can do is watch...like the Thunderhead.
