Ever heard of impostor syndrome?
Well, if you look it up in the dictionary, you'll find my picture beside the definition. I've been living in my older brother's shadow since the day I was born.
Anyone would struggle to live up to the legacy of the great Jaxon Slate, hockey superstar and face of the league. But it's worse for me. Everyone expects me to be Jaxon 2.0, and I'm nothing more than an off-brand imitation. When I'm out and about, people see me and glance over my shoulder, hoping he's with me.
Until her.
She couldn't get away from me fast enough the day we met. The second she heard I was a professional athlete, she bolted for the door. I can't remember the last time someone wasn't trying to get close to me because of my career, my athletic skills on the ice, or my famous brother.
Now, if only she would give me the time of day.
I'm ready to be seen as more than just a second-rate superstar. It's time to play the starring role in my own life.
Second-Rate Superstar is the third book in the Connecticut Comets Hockey series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone. Connecticut Comets Hockey is a spin-off series of Scoring the Princess from the Remington Royals series.

This audiobook is narrated by Jaclyn Kelso and John William Maddux. I haven’t heard John before but he worked well for Braxton. This is the story of Braxton, Jaxon’s younger brother, and Dakota who is a romance writer. She also wants nothing to do with athletes. They first meet at a frat party and she doesn’t know who he is. Dakota has some serious daddy issues and very high walls built up. Braxton is super insecure 😕 because he’s always been in his brother, Jaxon, shadows. Braxton just wants to be his own person. Braxton definitely had a 🥵 mouth in the bedroom! He fell so hard/fast for her, it was cute to watch. The FMC messed up--she writes a romance novel on him/their relationship…. Like WTF! How could you?! She puts all his damage out on page. He takes this super hard since he’s always been in the shadows and he up & moves away/changing teams… there was no explanation from our hero about why that cut him so deep. No real exploration of why he reacted the way he did…the ending was blah and rushed! I didn’t care for this part.
