Dramatized in a motion picture starring Brad Pitt, Seven Years in Tibet is the autobiographical account of a young Austrian adventurer and the escape from an internment camp that changed his life forever. In 1943, Heinrich Harrer, a noted mountain climber and skier, slipped out of captivity in India and made his way through the Himalayan passes to the Forbidden City of Lhasa in Tibet. From destitute vagabond, he rose to the position of tutor and confidant to the fourteen-year-old Dalai Lama. Until their parting in 1950, when the Chinese Communists overran the country, his close relationship with the revered holy man profoundly altered his way of living, even his way of thinking.

I felt the author rushed through some of the most intense parts of the story. I would have enjoyed hearing more about the struggle of getting to Tibet rather than having him glaze over it.

phenomenal book!

this is based on real life events between Heinrich Herrer and his Holiness the Dalai Lama. Always been fascinated with this story, I do own an original first edition, so when the audio book came out I was the first one in line. phenomenal narration by the late Tim Pigot Smith. The way he reads it is absolutely fantastic. in-depth and an absolute joy to listen to.

Nice but a little slow

I'm glad I read it because it was thoughtful and the underlying story is interesting, yet it was a little slow
