The shifts, and tours, become weeks, months, and eventually years. The crews work in the districts and territories assigned. Learning the community, learning the residents, learning the roads and shops and stores. Learning about the calls is what sets the crews apart. Knowing when, how, and where the calls that should concern you will happen. Knowing how your partner, your teammate, will respond is vital to survival. Knowing when things are about to turn south, is what makes that person riding with you more family than co-worker.
