Decades after starring in the film adaptation, Wil Wheaton narrates an all-new recording of the story that shaped a generation!

#1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King's timeless novella The Body, originally published in his 1982 collection Different Seasons and adapted into the 1986 film classic Stand by Me, now available as a stand-alone edition.

Four rambunctious young boys venture into the Maine woods in search of a boy from a nearby town who has disappeared. Gordie Lachance and his three friends set out on a quest to find the missing boy's body along the railroad tracks. The Body is set outside King's iconic fictional town of Castle Rock, which is the setting of many of King's most popular books including It and The Stand, and Castle Rock, a 10-episode Hulu original series, based on King's short stories. King's The Body is an iconic coming of age story that explores the loneliness and isolation of young adulthood.

What a treat. Wil is the perfect person to narrate this. And it’s a great companion for fans of the movie. There are parts of the book that flesh out parts skipped or truncated in the movie, as expected, but there are also parts that were changed for the movie that actually work better in that. That so rarely happens with movie adaptations but this is a wonderful exception. Highly recommended.

So so good, and shows just how good the movie is too.

I started listening to this because I am a longtime fan of Wil Wheaton (and sorely miss “The Ready Room”). I quickly got caught up in the story and not only forgot who was reading it, but that it was all one person. What a wonderful merging of Stephen King‘s words and Wheaton‘s delivery.

Gripping

Who Wheaton is absolutely the perfect narrator for the novella that became the movie Stand By Me.
He brings not only Birdie expertly back to life but captures the feel of both the time and complexity inherent in the story.

If you've seen Stand By Me, the narrative will pull the images to mind.
The only thing that could never be perfect, not due to lack by Wil, but due to expectations of the audience is the iconic "train"!!!! Will gives it everything., but just as Terry's pennies multiplied so do our memories of the scene.

Five stars all the way around for this snapshot in time.

Stunning and Well Done

I highly recommend this book and recording! This is a fine book with Stephen King at his best as a writer. Also, it is great to hear Wil Wheaton do an excellent job of reading and recording the book.

I highly recommend this book and recording

Wil Wheaton revisiting the novella that led to his breakout role is perfect. Like Gordie in the story, Wheaton is looking back on his childhood through adult eyes. I've long been a fan of both Wheaton and King, and I can't imagine a better interpretation.
