Vienna Stratton knew she only had herself to blame. You didn't let yourself become indebted to a man like Dane Davenport, no matter how badly you needed his help. As his personal assistant, she was very aware that the globally successful CEO was ruthless and unforgiving.
Of course, if she'd known he'd request that she be his wife for 12 months, she'd have hesitated in accepting his help. Because what she'd learned from Dane was that the devil wasn't ugly and terrorizing. He was seductive and captivating. He hummed with whispers of temptation - the temptation to sin and surrender, to let him brand and possess you. He awakened every need and fantasy you had.
He could even make you love him.

Samantha Cook is one of the best narrators. She has a gift for brining characters to life and her delivery is quirky and unique. If you loved this, listen to That Guy by Kim Jones.

Lately I have been in a bit of a book funk, and even on good days I can leave a trail of unfinished books and bad reviews in my wake because I have very little tolerance for bad writing. Thankfully I am not adding this book to the count.
Overall, I really enjoyed it. It was a nice break from the fantasy/sci-fi I usually read, and was just the right mix of fun tropes without going overboard on anything. For instance, I liked that while there was drama, the drama wasn’t the star of the show and it didn’t drag on. And there was very little serious drama between the hero and heroine, because they managed not to be terribly stupid and they actually communicated with each other. The relationship development was just the right amount of slow, and left enough mystery to keep me guessing. Are his motives sincere? Is he really a psychopath? Are the relatives really the bad guys or is there something to what they say?
My old real regret is that the entire book was from the heroine’s POV. I would have really appreciated at least one chapter from the guy’s POV so we could finally get in his head and have some suspicions confirmed or denied. Sigh.
There were a few surprise issues where the narrator used wrong words, I would have thought those errors would caught when reading the story out loud. Otherwise the writing was pretty solid.
If you want a light book without too much drama, some mystery, good relationship development, a moderate number of overall tasteful sex scenes, this would be a good pick. It is nothing amazing or exceptional, but it was a solid, entertaining story.
Surprised how much I enjoyed it
