The Garsaspname

Composed in 1066 but only now translated into English, the Garšāspnāme by ʿAlī ben Aḥmad Asadī Ṭūsī is a Persian epic that interprets Avestan and earlier Indo-European myths for the Islamic peoples of Mediaeval Iran and Afghanistan.

The “Book of Garšāsp” is a story taking listeners on a picaresque adventure throughout the known world. Combining a violent odyssey with enlightening discourses on the nature of the universe, Asadī’s masterpiece follows the Iranian hero Garšāsp on his exploits from India to Byzantium, and from Tunisia to China. This is an enthralling saga filled with dragons, conquests, princesses, and magic.

Rendered into English by Tom Billinge, author of the WarYoga book series, after nearly a millennium this work is now available to a global audience.
