When 13-year-old Julian Daniels’ mother abandons him in 1928, he leaves his small town in Missouri, running away from a past full of enemies and broken promises.

Hundreds of miles away in Cheyenne, Wyoming, schoolteacher Catherine takes him in to her home, unaware of his troubled past. When alone in her house, Julian makes a discovery that will allow him to leave behind his troubled life - and his time - forever. Unable to leave behind his criminal habits, he steals something valuable to her and makes his escape to the future.

In 2000, widower Mike Roberts is doing his best to care for his two daughters, Sarah and Gracie. When Sarah accidentally discovers a door to the past in their new house, their present and Catherine and Julian’s world of 1928 collide in a chain of events that will leave the past and present forever altered.
