“Stunning.... Steinhauer reinforces his position at the top of the espionage genre.” (Publishers Weekly, starred review)

New York Times best-selling author Olen Steinhauer brings back Milo Weaver in a new novel, The Last Tourist.

In Olen Steinhauer’s best seller An American Spy, reluctant CIA agent Milo Weaver thought he had finally put "Tourists" - CIA-trained assassins - to bed.

A decade later, Milo is hiding out in Western Sahara when a young CIA analyst arrives to question him about a series of suspicious deaths and terrorist chatter linked to him.

Their conversation is soon interrupted by a new breed of Tourists intent on killing them both, forcing them to run.

As he tells his story, Milo is joined by colleagues and enemies from his long history in the world of intelligence, and the young analyst wonders what to believe. He wonders, too, if he’ll survive this encounter.

After three stand-alone novels, Olen Steinhauer returns to the series that made him a New York Times best seller.

A Macmillan Audio production from Minotaur Books

"Olen Steinhauer is one of the most talented of the new generation of spy writers. His characters are nuanced, his storylines rooted in today’s headlines but with added zing, like a burst of citrus in a dry Martini...the skill of Steinhauer’s writing makes this much more than a standard chase thriller." (Financial Times)

Very engaging. Felt like a movie or a Netflix series I couldn’t help but binge listen.

Storyline

This was a well written story with excellent characters spoiled when the author and narrated decided to introduce a political far left hatred of the current President of the USA - probably my last Olen Steinhauer - the first three of four were also excellent without the in youR face politics - orange man bad - capitalism bad. 🥴

Good story spoiled.

Not on par with previous books in the series. It’s unfortunate the writer didn’t have another outlet to vent his personal frustrations about actual current political events. It ruined an otherwise great book series. I would be hesitant to read another series by this author.

A bit disappointing

The story was not up to par with the previous 3 and had a bit too much political commentary for me. Detracted from the story to push his liberal ideology. The main premise of the story didn’t culminate to wrap up the overall series. I could have done without this one.

A little slow

This story of espionage and international high jinx requires careful attention by the listener. It is set in the modern world. of international relations, espionage and global corporate unaccountability. The plot is believable, and the audio delivery is outstanding, especially considering the large cast of characters involved. I rarely read fiction a second time, but this may be a worthwhile endeavor given the myriad of facts and twists involved. If you miss George Smiley this book may well be for you!

More twists that a bag of Halloween candy
