Dive into the electrifying conclusion of The Long Night Saga with The Long Dawn, Book 3 by Alex Bueno. Following the harrowing events of The Long Night and The Long Way Home, the fight for survival intensifies as John Winter, his family, their community, and the entire country face unprecedented threats in a world irrevocably changed.

John and his son, Jack Winter, are on the verge of reaching home, eager to reunite with John’s wife, Emily, and their daughter, Sarah. Their long journey from Orlando, where they were when the EMP struck, to their home in Tampa has been fraught with peril, but the final leg of their journey will present challenges they never imagined.

Meanwhile, President Lowell faces even greater challenges as he struggles to save the nation from chaos and enemy domination. The weight of leadership bears down on him as he grapples with the fallout of devastating attacks, the chilling reality of betrayal within his inner circle, and the looming threat of a biohazard attack. As he fights to save the nation, President Lowell must confront not only external adversaries but also the gnawing uncertainty of who he can truly trust, making every decision a tightrope walk between desperate hope and the crushing possibility of utter failure.

If you crave post-apocalyptic thrillers, stories of resilience in the face of unimaginable disaster, and narratives featuring strong characters making impossible choices, The Long Dawn will pin you to your seat. This is more than a story of survival; it’s an exploration of what truly matters when everything else is stripped away.

I loved each individuals stories becoming intertwined. I cant say enough of how good this series was.

This whole series was gripping from start to finish

I'm happy to report that the editing on this volume of the series is much, MUCH better than the last one, so much so that I'm actually wondering if the author posted the wrong version of book 2 on accident. The plot continued to hold my interest and keep me engaged while presenting an interesting - and scary - scenario for a potential attack on the United States. The author makes a very good point: why would a hostile country hell bent on destroying America stop at just a few EMPs?

I do have one small beef, but it involves a minor spoiler so please stop here unless you want a very small part of a scene to be spoiled! Otherwise, scroll down... 👇🏻

Okay, spoiler incoming! You have been warned!

So my one minor beef with this story is how terrified a group of armed soldiers were when faced with a 10ft Burmese python. I mean, come on. It's unlikely that it could have overpowered even a single strong, healthy soldier on their own, let alone multiple soldiers together. Even a 15 ft Burmese wouldn't have been much of a threat. So, I call bs on that part.

Thought Provoking, Attention Catching, And Much Better Editing

I have listened to about 100 different end of the world style of books, during 2024-2026. None of them are zombie books, all of them are EMP or virus or cyber attack or mixture of them.

I really enjoyed this entire series and was pleasantly surprised that I did not have a problem with the AI voice. Usually, I would very quickly get frustrated with an AI voice, however, this one wasn’t bad there was only one or two words that I noticed were incorrectly, pronounced by the AI voice and I was able to move past that pretty easily.

I have also enjoyed books by Kyla Stone, Grace Hamilton, Franklin Horton and Robert Walker to name a few.

My favorite style are about communities, trying to make a go of it after we have no power, after some crazy trek home for some portion of the group. Some books do not delve very much into what the cause of the event was or the potential rebuild after the event for the society as a whole, this series did a good job of giving you that perspective and the perspective of the individuals suffering on the ground.

I read a lot of reviews that are upset by the characters being peppers or special forces… however I think it makes sense that most of the time these books focus on a couple of characters who are prepper like or special ops persons because I do think it’s most likely those are the types of folks who are going to survive such a thing. Those people who work in an office and have not attempted to prep anything and do not have any of those skills are very likely not going to make it so why would a book be about how those people, probably quickly, died.

I really enjoyed it!

the story left just enough suspense for a new book, yet a suitable closure for the story.
