In this Pride and Prejudice variation, Elizabeth Bennet confronts Mr. Darcy about his cutting words at the Meryton assembly—but Mrs. Bennet overhears just enough of their heated argument to draw entirely the wrong conclusion. Before either can correct the misunderstanding, all of Hertfordshire believes they're engaged.

To protect Elizabeth's reputation and her family's standing, they agree to maintain the charade temporarily. But as their pretend courtship gives way to genuine feelings, can two people who started with deception find their way to the truth?
