It was in the 22nd year of the rule of her father, Ptolemy XII Auletes, when Cleopatra began her journey of defiance. The family had just been blessed with yet another Ptolemaic heir, this one, a boy. Nor was he to be the last.

Young Cleopatra sensed that something was terribly wrong. Something was putting the ‘nasty’ in their dynasty and had been since ancient times.

She watched it grow to consume her brother, and soon her sister as well. Fate had spared her from the worst of it, that and the ancient talisman she wore.

But how long would Egypt suffer under the tyranny of Ra? And how long before he put an end to her? It was time to fight back. If the gods could be defied, she would do so. No others would die as her father had died. And if not, at least she would go to the duat knowing she had tried.
