The Plainsman – The U.S. Marshal, chronicles Sam Jackson’s time serving as the U.S. Marshal for the western district of Texas. Sam and Nora move from Fort Apache to San Angelo, Texas. They find a home and get situated. Sam goes to investigate a complaint of a chicken thief. He follows the man only to discover that he has been captured by Apache. After putting the man out of his misery, Marshal Jackson goes after the Indians.

Over the next couple of years, Sam tracks bank robbers, stagecoach bandits, and horse thieves. Along the way, a son, Cody, is born. While Sam is chasing horse thieves, Cody is bitten by a scorpion and has to spend a night in the doctor’s office. Sam goes after two horse thieves who have stolen four Saddlebred horses. He kills one of the horse thieves; the second one gets away with two of the horses. Sam is faced with the prospect of crossing the Rio Grande into Mexico to capture or kill the second horse thief and bring back the horses. Along with other problems,
