The instant New York Times and USA Today best seller

From the number-one best-selling author of Too Much and Never Enough: A diagnosis of America's national trauma, and a way to heal.

The Reckoning will examine America’s national trauma, rooted in our history but dramatically exacerbated by the impact of current events and the Trump administration’s corrupt and immoral policies. Our failure to acknowledge this trauma, let alone root it out, has allowed it to metastasize. Whether it manifests itself in rising levels of rage and hatred, or hopelessness and apathy, the stress of living in a country we no longer recognize has affected all of us. America is suffering from PTSD - a new leader alone cannot fix us.

An enormous amount of healing must be done to rebuild our faith in leadership, and our hope for this nation. It starts with The Reckoning.

The story is more a social statement than directly an attack on her uncle. She uses Donald as a backdrop to tell her story. It really wasn't what I thought it would be, but that is not a bad thing. I like the book, I just didn't get to here her bash Donald as much as I thought she would. Don't get me wrong, he's definitely cast in the role of arch villain, it just isn't all about how bad Donald is. There is a focus more on society and the decisions we must make in the next 2 or 3 years or face serious consequences.

Focus of racism using her uncle as a mirror

Like Rachel Maddow, Mary Trump is very good at setting up a story, very good at research, so that learning new things is interesting and even hopeful. The only Trump I like, I highly recommend.

A wide ranging and thorough look at the root causes of how we got to where we are. our intelligence as a society shows itself in our lack of humanity to each other. Our lack of concern for democracy is also evident. Mary did an excellent job of Shining some light on how we got here.

Mary L Trump, this manuscript is not what I expected it was going to be.

As the author, your recounting and accounting of what ‘America’ must do, admitting to her past history in truth and honesty while finding ways to mitigate and deal with what must be done to “right the wrongs” of the past.

Myself, as a retired educator, would often try in my own inimitable way, impart some of this knowledge to 5th graders by stating that the “Founders” didn’t have the ‘human capital’ to de legitimize slavery although it’s claimed that Thomas Jefferson tried to insert a passage blaming it on King George but it was struck out.

As well, I spent considerable time on First Nations, reminding my students that there existed at least 17 linguistic cultural areas of Indigenous People settlement and existence with government, society, customs, and traditions and that over time [especially after the French and Indian War British victory] Europeans proceeded to incur and displace First Nations inhabitants.

Mary L Trump, Thank You for writing “The Reckoning”- the lesson that America, her government and all her people need to acknowledge and know and remediate.

I am a history buff--particularly 19th and 20th century US history. I thought I knew pretty much all that went on about the cruelty and hatred toward African-Americans but I was so wrong. The first chapter was an eye-opener for sure! I am a 75-year-old, educated, white American but until recent years was totally ignorant about this. Thanks to Ms Trump, who writes clearly and has a wonderful voice as the narrator, I am more informed. I also happen to be a Lesbian who served in the military many years ago and throughout my life have faced discrimination and lost some jobs, etc, just being who I am. But what I suffered doesn't come close to what other races have suffered here in the good old USA!

The book is not a nasty tome devoted to her idiot Uncle (although he is mentioned) but rather covers so many issues surrounding our Democracy.

I am so grateful Audible picked this book up as I am sight-impaired and audiobooks still keep me informed.

Without pause, I heartily recommend this book. It is abundantly thoughtful and her analysis of issues is believable.

There is always more to learn
